...what does "half-joking" mean, anyway?

i try to explain what i mean anytime i use /HJ but sometimes i might forget!if you're ever left confused by the usage of /HJ, think of it like this:
a half-joking statement is one that's based on real opinion, but is delivered in a joking manner.
here's an example: "i am the number 1 tomato hater of all time /HJ"
by using /HJ i'm acknowledging the fact that i'm sure i'm not really the number 1 tomato hater of all time - but the 'truth' in the statement comes from my strong dislike of tomatoes. i definitely hate tomatoes a lot, but i'm also not actually the "number 1 hater" even if i make jokes about my dislike for them.

of course, it can be hard to infer exactly what /HJ means when it comes to different people and contexts, which is why i try to reserve it for situations where whoever it is i'm speaking with is somebody i know can, with relative ease, understand my intention and implication behind it. this is usually close friends who already know about me as a person.
with all that being said, if you're still left confused by anything i say, please feel free to ask for clarity!
